Webcam Solutions: iVcam vs EpocCam and How to Use Them

Millions of us are working or schooling from home, and video communication has become the norm. We video conference, livestream, and create and watch webinars to connect with our colleagues and customers. A good webcam can be quite expensive, have low-quality, or may not be accessible when you need it. Fortunately, if you’re an iPhone user, you don’t have to panic! Your smartphone can be used as a webcam. There are options available like Epoch Cam or Logitech c920a; however, we found that iVcam works great. Here’s a tip video to walk you through using your iPhone as a webcam.

For the Digital Nomad or Remote Worker, knowing how to use your iPhone as a webcam eliminates the need to carry additional equipment. Which leads into the next question, why do I need a Webcam if my laptop already has one built-in???

Using the built-in camera, while convenient, may create a security risk. Hackers can turn on your camera without you knowing. Most people will not notice the light on the camera come on when we are not using it. With an actual Webcam you can simply unplug it when you are not using it, much like the phone option.

Think of your iPhone as a multi-tool that can be used in many ways simultaneously without having to carry various devices. For example: Connect your phone to your laptop to use its hotspot for secure internet connectivity, transfer files to your phone for additional storage options, use it as a Webcam and all while having a side conversation via SMS with a friend.

In doing so you have eliminated carrying a WiFi hotspot, a Webcam, and a USB drive. This not only makes you a lighter traveler but saves you a bunch of money on unnecessary equipment.
